Black Womens Wigs--Shampoo Them The Right Way

There is a right way and a wrong way to wash yourblack womens  wig. Do it right and your wig will last much longer.

Every wig needs to be shampooed regularly to keep it clean and in  pristine condition. An african american wig, be it synthetic or real hair, needs a shampoo every 10 to 14 days, or more often if it gets dirty quickly. If your daily activities expose the wig to conditions which can cause it to become dirty  you might have to wash it much more often.  If the wig is in an environment where tobacco smoke, paint or oil fumes contaminate it you will probably want to shampoo it right away to get rid of the odor which is clinging to it.

To shampoo a wig the right way, fill up the wash basin till it is at least half  full, or more, with water which is lukewarm to cool in temperature. Wig shampoo, which is made for this purpose, should be used whenever possible. If this is not available you can use mild baby shampoo as a substitute. Add around one tablespoon to the water and stir it with your hand till well mixed. With a wig brush (not a regular hair brush) brush your wig carefully. Next place the wig in the wash basin and swirl it around very carefully and gently. Continue doing this for a minute or more till the wig is properly washed. Now hold the wig in a gentle cold water flow from the wash basin tap to wash out all the shampoo.

Next take a soft towel and very gently soak up the water from the wig using a blotting action. Do this very carefully and gently so as to avoid damaging your wig. In no circumstances should you wring out the wig.You can now apply a hair conditioner spray to aid in keeping the wig soft and pliable. Never put it in direct sun and never brush the wig till it has dried completely. If yours is a real hair wig it can now be styled to any style you want by using a blow dryer and curling tongs just as if it were your own hair. If you have a synthetic wig no hot tools can be used. Heat damages and melts the synthetic hair. This process of shampooing, drying and restyling your wig is really just the use of plain old common sense. Follow the instructions provided by the wig maker and do the job carefully to avoid any damage to your favorite wig.

Finally the wig should be allowed to dry by placing it on a styrofoam head which is smaller than the wig. Never stretch the wig onto a larger styrofoam head. As an alternative place the wig over something like a vase or bottle to dry.
